Faculty – OverviewThe priority of the Office of Technology Transfer is to manage the intellectual property assets of the University of Notre Dame and encourage the development of new products through research in the laboratories. Faculty, staff, and student inventors interested in patenting a technology being developed are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Notre Dame Intellectual Property Policy. The patenting process is a partnership that requires the inventors and the patent attorney to work together throughout the process. In the event that a commercial entity is interested in licensing the technology, the Technology Transfer Office will partner with the inventor and patent attorney to work with the interested party(ies). The Technology Transfer division of the Office of Research is responsible for managing the intellectual property assets of the University of Notre Dame. With the help of the faculty the technology transfer office will evaluate, patent, market and license Notre Dame technologies to commercial entities. Technology transfer involves the transfer of research results to the commercial sector for the benefit of the public. It is an important way for universities to not only demonstrate the relevance of their research programs, but to introduce innovation to the marketplace, and ultimately enhance people’s lives.
