Many awards contain terms related to publications. These range from a request to acknowledge the sponsor’s assistance to restrictions requesting pre-publication review or approval of the manuscripts. Requests for pre-publication review are acceptable, while pre-publication approval is not.

As a general rule, the University will insist that all arrangements under which research is undertaken are free from any restrictions on the publication of results except in the cases of professional ethics, a nominal delay to protect intellectual property rights, or national urgency.
